Refashion: 2 "New" Skirts for this Summer

I'll admit it. I have been a total slacker lately. I have a whole list of projects I want to get started on, but I haven't had the motivation.

I had 3 days off in a row this week and thought that I would have plenty of time to hippie it up. However, my first day off happened to be my bestie's birthday, so I spent the day preparing for that... making reservations, picking out decorations, etc.

My second day off was spent recovering from the previous night... oof.

I finally rolled my lazy arse off the sofa. Tidied up a little. Folded some laundry. Decided that I could at least patch a small hole in my favorite jeans (even in my hungover state). Once I started puttering around in my sewing room, I couldn't stop. I had a sundress in there that i had been meaning to fix since last summer. One of the straps had gotten shredded in the wash. Also, it had a really high waisband that was a little too tight. This made the dress pretty uncomfortable, especially on hot, humid days.

I cut the top of the dress of, directly above the waistband, removed the back elastic and added a zipper to the side seam. This will be so much better with a light tank top this summer...
My head was still in a fog, so I totally forgot to take a before picture :(
Basically, it had a bikini-type top in the same fabric attached to the top of the current waistband.

One successful project gave me the energy to attempt another. I had picked up this totally hippie style tanktop at the dollar-a-pound outlet
I thought it was adorable, but knew I'd never wear it as a top.
I cut the uppermost part straight across from armpit to armpit. The back was already straight across and had a little elastic gathering it. I had to seam-rip a little of the existing trim, but once that was done it was smooth sailing.

I angled the top of the side seams slightly, folded the top over a smidgen and tacked it down with a straight stitch. Now it's ready for summer!
