ARTS AND CRAFTS: Kids' Craftroom Redo on the Cheap (part 5)

All of the big projects are done now. The space is brighter and more defined. The Wigglets have 3 separate playhouses and a whole art wall. It's looking good, but I still have a LOT of boring blank space to fill; most of it is cold, hard concrete, too.

Off to the fabric store for inspiration...
I wandered around for a bit trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go. I wanted something fun and soft. Something that would encourage the Wigglets to use their imaginations... I also wanted something cheap and easy to deal with. Lo and behold, rolls of 60" felt happened to be on sale for $3 per yard. That meant that for $6, I would have a piece of felt that was 5' wide by 6' tall. Perfect for a giant felt board to take up space on a blank concrete wall. So, I bought 2 yards and a package of multicolor felt pages (precut 8"x11" sheets of felt).
I reinforced the top edge with duct tape (folding it over the entire width of the felt), and then hung it on the wall using squares of industrial strength velcro.

The beauty of felt is that it sticks to itself because it's so fuzzy. There is no adhesive involved, so it doesn't stick to anything else. It's totally machine washable. And, most of the synthetic felt is recycled!

Once the board was up, I starting cutting the multi-colored sheets into different shapes that I thought the Wigglets would enjoy... there's a tic-tac-toe board, a Mr Potato Head with changeable parts, random shapes, the Wigglets names, and...
some personal sized pizzas.
Would you like basil and pepperoni? Or mushroom and red onion?
